FAQ's:
What is competitive soccer?
Competitive soccer programs identify youth players who show potential talent and a willingness to improve their skills. By providing quality training, coaching and tournament opportunities, it is the starting point for competitive youth soccer. The entire season consists of two separate sessions, Fall and Spring.
How do you determine what age team to play on?
To play on a team, you must meet the age requirements of that team. For example to play on a U-10 team, you must be under 10 years old on August 1st before the fall season.
What to expect?
As a competitive player, you will be given an opportunity to join other individuals who also have a committed interest in, and are excited about, playing soccer.
The coaching staff will work hard on teaching the fundamental skills of soccer, while also stressing the importance of playing together as a team.
Competitive soccer can be very exciting and rewarding. Players will see their hard work paying off as they increase in their own personal skills and learn to experience what it means to be an integral part of a team. It is our desire that throughout the season, each player will feel a sense of personal accomplishment, experience team spirit, have lots of fun, and grow in their love for the game of soccer.
How can I participate?
Open tryouts are held the beginning of June to select the team for the following fall and spring sessions. There are typically two tryout dates for each team. Those interested are asked to attend BOTH tryout sessions. Several coaches will assist in the selection process.
League rules state that a team can have a max number of 14 players for U-9/U10 and 17 players for U-11 and above. Although, coaches may choose not to carry the max number of players. If enough players tryout, it may be possible to form two teams. 50% of the players must be from Bellbrook and 50% must be age appropriate (8 years old (not 7) for a U-9 team). Neighboring community individuals are welcome to tryout.
Final decisions will be made after the tryouts. Everyone who participates will be notified.
How much will it cost?
A budget is prepared by each team's coach or team manager. The cost will depend on the number of players, fundraiser participation, how much sponsorship money is collected, and the number of tournaments your team decides to participate in. The average cost is approximately $90 -180 per session. Your team coach will be able to provide more detailed budget information.
When do practices begin?
Fall session practices typically start in the last week of July or the first week of August. Spring session practices typically start in the first week of March. Practices are generally 2-3 nights per week and run approx 1.5 hours in length.
When do games begin?
Fall session games run the entire months of September and October. Spring session games run the entire months of April and May. These dates may vary by a week in either direction. There are two games per week. Fall session games are on Saturdays and Sundays. Spring session games are on Saturdays and a week night. The schedule is set by the league (MVYSA - Miami Valley Youth Soccer Assoc).
What about tournaments?
Your team will decide if or how many tournaments your team will participate in. Typically a team will participate in at least one tournament each session. Tournaments are usually within a 1 hour drive.
Will traveling be involved?
Travel will be mainly confined to the Greater-Dayton-Area (i.e. Beavercreek, Xenia, Englewood,Centerville, Dayton, Sidney, Springfield)
Other opportunities?
Players are invited to shag balls from Bellbrook Jr. High and High School soccer games. There are also opportunities to attend local college games and other mini-camps. In the winter, kids may have the opportunity to play indoor soccer at the SportsPlex in Fairborn, Gateway Sports Complex in North Dayton, or Kingdom Sports in Franklin. These are less structured, and there typically are no practices during this time.
